A solution to Congo’s election dispute "is likely to come from African regional organizations," says CFR’s Africa expert John Campbell. Campbell emphasizes that the standoff is "a major political problem in which the United States and other friends of Congo have remarkably little leverage," and recommends withholding support for President Joseph Kabila’s government until the situation clarifies.
